So even though the XSX is twice as powerful as the X1X through pure raw performance, that doesn't exactly translate to double performance in the BC mode on XSX.

I do wonder if the resolution boost technology used for 360 games could be used for Xbox One games running as Xbox One S settings to sharpen things up again (or even run at One X settings with the resolution dropped down).Ĭlick to shrink. The compromises allowing it to happen are simply because the games were designed for the Xbox One or Xbox One X rather than the Series S|X, which means that even without FPS boost, running those games will not bring out the full performance of the consoles as there is inevitably going to be a little bit more power involved in getting everything up. And especially for those games which don't have to sacrifice anything to run at 60 it's a no-brainer. Still this is a commendable effort by Microsoft, and seeing the Series S get support for this feature is fantastic to see as well.
#FAR CRY 3 FPS BOOST 1080P#
It's kind of ironic that the PS4 Pro's lack of hardware grunt means Sony coud probably get better results with a feature like this (as you can see with the first party BC 60FPS patches) - and if they did have to drop down from PS4 Pro settings - dropping down to 1080p (as opposed to 900p) would be slightly easier to swallow. Having to drop all the way down to One S settings to hit 60FPS is such a massive drop when you know the Series X could handle higher settings. It's also what lead to games like Sekiro running at a locked 60 on PS5 but not Series X - becuase the PS4Pro version used checkerboarding vs the One X's rendering at a higher native res. This is one of those cases where it's a bit of a shame that the One X was as powerful as it was - because games for it are designed for a GPU which unfortunately the Series X isn't quite 2x as powerful as. Watch Dogs: 792p on both SX|SS: Perfectly locked 60 FPS. Essentially 60 FPS w/ tiny stutters on SS.

Far Cry 5: SX|SS both run at 1440x1080p. Deus EX: Mankind Divided: SX|SS 900p/ flat 60 FPS. SS has drops in depth of field related effects. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition: Flat 1080p/60, only SS tested, but will be the same on SX. Shadow of Tomb Raider: SX: 2016p (basically 4K) running at 60 FPS the vast majority of the time with minor drops in stress areas. Metro Redux: 912p on both, SX|SS and perfect 120hz through and through. SS: 900p/60 FPS but has a lot of sustained drops in traversal and combat. SX: 1080p/60, locked with exception of one or two stutters noted at all. SS also runs at 900p/60 but has a lot more frequent drops all over the city. Homefront The Revolution: SX 900p, but mostly 60 FPS with some unusual drops. Pretty good 60 FPS lock but resolution drops to 900p. Series X already utilizes the 1080p/60 mode from the One X enhancements.
#FAR CRY 3 FPS BOOST UPDATE#
Gears 4: Update is basically for Series S to run at 1080p/60. Basically in cases where FPS boost is off by default on Series X turns the game into the One S codepath with higher frame rate.
